another story that has nothing to do with Japan today.
There are far better alternatives that could get reported here. I suspect just a story for those foreign readers from the narrow range of countries that this product sells in.

Not available in Japan, why is this listed under Japan Today's technology section?

My attempt once to capture TV with a device for such matters bought at Akiba ended up with returning the device to the shop. Simple reason was: it was unusable on non-JP WinXP. Maybe a bit more market research could have helped.

888naff - I quite agree. While this technology news is all very spiffy, it would help if it had some relevance to Japan, or if not it could be placed in the World section if deemed importnat enough.
Or will it be released in Japan?

How about using a free alternative (http://www.mythtv.org/)?

MythTV... MythTV... MYTHTV (Are there any bigger letters here than bold? :) ) It does everything better than TiVo and it's free and open-source. Just try MythDORA or other quick install distributions. It works in Japan and with a huge variety of tuners (last time I tried it with Plextor's ConvertX. It's definitely worth a look before plunging down 195$ for some proprietary piece of software
