Good idea but the solution is fatally flawed without additional sensors. Cars would swerve to avoid each other and straight into pedestrians or into a brick wall. Wireless communication between cars is not enough - at best a secondary hint. It's not the real solution.
I think the vision of science fiction author Kurt Vonnegut Jr. is on the verge of coming true. At some point the robots will rightly conclude that human beings are troublesome and totally unnecessary, and get rid of them.
yokomoc, you were almost there with that comment.
Embed this technology into Japanese pedestrians so that they can then walk in straight lines and not stop in the middle of a crowded pavement or entrance.
However, this technology (not only from Nissan) is a taste of the future, particularly for motorway driving.

Never happens to me any more. I learned to use Japanese radar here, and American radar when beck in the US. One thing I cannot beat yet is the Japanese person that gets off the escalator and stops to look in their purse. Usually a woman, but then again, lots of guys carry purses here too. Do that in the states and you would be robbed in an instant, and stop on the top of an escalator? You would be pushed down it the other way in a second. Learn Japanese radar and enjoy.
late as always. The US was using similar tech in CARS that were grouped driving close together on highways like one long convoy. That was years ago not sure how far the tech has advanced.

Driverless cars. Now where's the fun in that?

Just like good little Japanese drones. The people do everything the same, and now they are making there cars do everything the same. Pitiful.

Cars like the society that built them. anyway, driverless cars suck. Remeber "Jonny Cab" from Blade Runner. No good for a quick getaway.
