Wait, Protesters cannot have a mobile. It uses ELECTRICITY to charge it. Toss it in the dust bin.

"Worries over the health implications of the leak, which is still not plugged, have sent demand for radiation-measuring devices soaring in Japan."
It's not a "leak". It's a massive geyser, and if it is not stopped, it will exceed Chernobyl; some experts say it already has if you add in what they dumped in the sea.
Docomo is doing nothing more than making a gimmick to get people's money. We've got the worst radiological contamination ever (in Chernobyl they banned people and affected food, but Japan IS spreading it), and they want to make phones?????????????? NUTS!

Wow. A phone with a surface detection monitor for radiation is really good. I hope you can check produce and such with it. A really neat idea since Daiichi and tainted foodstuff is still a problem and being able to test food yourself could take stress off a person.

"Fukushima Daiichi, sparking meltdowns that sent radioactive materials into the air, soil and sea." ....says Docomo to Japains......The watchwords of 2011 and onwards: "radioactive materials into the air, soil and sea."

docomo is opening themselves up for a world of being sued. Unless these are classed as a toy then they are liable if they give inaccurate readings and cause accidents

Are these checked and calibrated against a known radioactive source?
Otherwise they are just useless.

Can they make one that detects stupidity?

does it detect the radiation you are receiving when using the phone?

It probably makes a polite suggestion that you buy some new socks.

http://goo.gl/WsJq6 Asashi Japan watch has a concise write up with a photo. Actually a cool gadget.
basically get an android phone, buy the cover, get the "App" and away you go. Like Nike do with ipod. Actually a big external device addition on smartphones that is becoming popular is heart rate monitors like polar. no longer do you have a watch, you just buy a bluetooth sensor and the smartphone becames the brains.
