Holy smokes. Just say NO. was that hard? What's China going to do? Also this will backlash in the West, making the companies even more China's stooge. When corp's sellout, they sell all out.

While I think that they should tell China where to stick it as well, there is a lot of things that China could do to screw over many of these companies. Most of these PCs are assembled in China. It would be a real shame if they suddenly had problems getting the PCs out of Chinese customs to send them around the world.
Add to that, China has 1 billion+ people. That is a LOT of consumers. So what if they can't see good chunks of the Internet world? Selling computers to even 1% of a population that size is a LOT of dosh. Very few companies are going to say no to that.

I think China is doing this because of, rather than in spite of, the economic downturn. The companies are too afraid to say no and lose big profit, even if saying yes causes slight profit loss.

More to the point that this is proof that these companies no longer reflect anything of their origins and will clap like a sea otter at the drop of a bag of money. Even though as a result of these actions likely someone will be detained, jailed or killed. Did that enter their balance sheets?
Psychopathic: a human psychological construct that describes chronic immoral and antisocial behavior.
Psychopathic Corporations: Profit no matter the cost to human lives no matter who your client is, either the Nazis or Communists or whatever, even if the result of your product people die. Profiting off of despair.
The delivery hasn't been complete yet. There is still time to mea culpa and pull back. Clearly they are now crossing a line, but don't want to talk about it as long as they get paid.
These companies are about to join the ranks of Monsanto, Union Carbide, 1930's IBM, and the tobacco industry.
Americans, thanks for selling out. If the least you can do, you can't even do then what future is that? What is your freedom worth? America sold out to China years ago. This just cements it.
