But unlike the cinematic version, the hulking Atlas robot is designed not as a warrior but as a humanitarian machine that would rescue victims in the rubble of a natural disaster, officials said on Tuesday.

Total B.S. DARPA makes WEAPONS.

The 187-centimeter-tall Atlas is one of the entrants in a contest designed to produce a man-like life-saver machine, the brainchild of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

Man-like KILLING machine. "D" in DARPA stands for Defense, that means WAR. The Department of Defense used to be called the War Department. War is Peace - 1984.

Drones were sold as being life-savers, too. Far from it.

It's a well known fact that wars and the military advance human technology. That technology nearly always ends up in domestic appliances, or used for non military purposes.

War gave us advancements in aircraft design - we can now fly in highly advanced double-decker airliners all over the planet. War gave us rockets - without which we wouldn't have the TV satellites and global communications. Yes, war is evil, but it does bring about the future. It's the way we advance as a race.

Cool, so which unfortunate country should be on the receiving end of a robot legion invasion before I get my personal robot maid?

Wrong. So wrong. We would be much more advanced now without war. We'd have colonies on the Moon and Mars by now without war and without the senseless killing. I don't need to beat up my neighbor to improve my life. And that would be selfish anyway if it did.

I would rather acquire new technology through curiosity and compassion than greed and blood-lust.

Well if science-fiction movies tell us anything, it's these years now that somebody aught to be installing (as a seemingly good idea) faulty programming and weapons into these robots.

I got thumbed down for telling the truth? Wow.

I don't see the resemblance...
