Pioneer, Microsoft sign patent cross-licensing deal

TOKYO —

U.S. Software giant Microsoft Corp has signed a patent cross-licensing agreement with Japanese electronic maker Pioneer Corp. Through the move, the two companies intend to strengthen their cooperation for the development of car navigation systems and other consumer electronics.

Under the agreement, Microsoft will receive payments from Pioneer. But further details of the deal were not disclosed. Pioneer is the 15th Japanese company with which Microsoft has concluded such agreement.
