When they finally do release Pokemon Go in Japan I expect there to be mayhem. I envision daily Japan Today articles about aficionados stepping off train platforms and many other tragic scenarios.

Pokemon Go is a deluge of accidents waiting to happen.

One small step for a phone game, one giant leap for the devolution of mankind.

Idiocracy Redux: coming to theaters in August.

one giant leap for the devolution of mankind.

Clinton is already making use of Pokemon Go to register democrats in Ohio. She's right, these idiots are potential democrats.

This is insensitive to a lot of people and their property. Great idea for making money, but still insensitive to a lot of people.

@kabukideath - Judging a whole group of people, like myself as dumb, is exactly that, 'dumb'. At least we are not trying to get someone like Donald Trump in as president. Now that is dumb.

I was wondering how these locations were getting chosen. They should have only used public places and private places that personally requested to be included. It might raise business for some places, but for private properties like churches and people's homes, it'll only be a nuisance. But I did find it hilarious that one church was worried that people might be "casing" the place. Really? Does a church even need to worry about being robbed? Should a church even own property so valuable that people would want to rob them?

It's inevitable that someone will drops lures into Pokemon Go as a crafty way to trick people into dangerous situations.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

People are a bit too sensitive. Playing a game on your phone should not bother anyone. Being loud about it certainly could, but that's not the game's fault - it's the obnoxious person that is causing problems. And as far as trespassing, it's the same. Let the pokemon appear wherever. Players are responsible to obey the law.

Adults reduced to children. This is now.

Hmm, methinks you are symptomatic of your own premise.

A 19 year old American, tries to stop millions of people addicted to video games, getting out of their bedrooms and actually breathing air and walking...because of a terrible event that happened over 70 years ago. Because it was "near" an exhibition. The Nazis also killed blacks, gays and Slavs. Not to mention 26 million Russians and 20 million Chinese.

Hmm, methinks you are symptomatic of your own premise.

Thats exactly the point sandiegoluv was making, hammered home with a concrete example.

Allusion completely lost on you

Perhaps some bright light can "improve" the code so that every player over the age of 18 is led, lemming-like, over a very tall cliff. I can understand children being excited by this kind of thing, but adults? Please...The world needs to preserve its oxygen for the productive and the mature.

Is this statement a complete contradiction or what?

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Outrider is spot on. Kids doing this stuff i can understand but adults ??? The same adults that never spend time with their kids i bet they are a complete waste of oxygen !

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Im playing it now downloaded from the aussie store, I was checking it out for my kids...Its a bit dangerous as you have pokemon on and near train platforms and tracks. I can see why people just walk around into danger

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@lonelygaijin

I realize that you downloaded Pokemon Go from the Aussie store, but are you now playing it in Japan? If so, I didn't realize that was possible.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Seems like a good idea on paper, but with all the problems we're seeing now, the company should be sued.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

@Sensato

It is not possible to play the game in Japan yet even if the app is downloaded from another country. If they are in Japan then they are lying.

Why would anyone waste their time with such nonsense?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Why would anyone waste their time with such nonsense?

Because they find it entertaining of course.

Anyone over the age of 15 playing this needs to re-evaluate their lives. But before that a kick in the ass..

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Another modern phenomenon that is a giant Snorlax to me.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Anyone over the age of 15 playing this needs to re-evaluate their lives.

Yeah, they need to learn to not do things they enjoy that other people don't enjoy, because the other people have decided that since they themselves don't enjoy it, no one else should either. People over 15 need to learn to live by other people's expectations, not their own.

Assuming that a dislike of Clinton equates to being a supporter of Trump. Now that is dumb.

It's inevitable that someone will drops lures into Pokemon Go as a crafty way to trick people into dangerous situations.

It has already happened. Days ago 4 people in Missouri were arrested for using Pokemon Go to lure people in then robbing them.

A 19 year old American, tries to stop millions of people addicted to video games, getting out of their bedrooms and actually breathing air and walking...because of a terrible event that happened over 70 years ago. Because it was "near" an exhibition.

She isn't trying to stop anyone from "getting out of their bedrooms and actually breathing air and walking". She is trying to stop them from swarming a solemn place where people go to remember a terrible tragedy. Or would you be OK if players wandered thru you relatives funeral? How about trampling over your relatives grave? Maybe disrupt your daughters wedding ceremony?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Can't say I fully understand it myself, never owned, watched, or done anything Pokemon. But one thing I do know, these people need to be put in their place and derided on the internet. The audacity in enjoying something they enjoy, when other people think they shouldn't enjoy it is mind-boggling.

@silvafan

I live in Osaka, downloaded the app from the Australian app store and when the servers were open for 30 mins I could play?? I caught a ratata and got an egg. I guess it was a dream.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Just downloaded it today and played for an hour or so. Highly addictive. Yes I am over 15.

Remember if you want Pikachu as your first Pokemon, you need to ignore the three presented to you, four times, then Pikachu will appear.

Reminds me of that famous tree (Philosophy Tree) in the town of Biei in Hokkaido. The owner had to cut it down because of the bad manners of tourist trespassing in order to take a picture.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

clemenza, I'm well over 15, never played the original Pokemon, and have been enjoying Pokemon Go with my kids this past week. There are throngs of 20-somethings walking around here in Northern California playing. The game will probably lose it's "newness" in a few months but it is fun, can be healthy (need to walk to get the eggs to hatch), and socially interactive (players walking around are willing to talk). I'd consider it more of a medium for different people to socialize (like golf) than a solitary activity like pachinko.

@kabuki

She's right, these idiots are potential democrats.

Is this not calling democrats dumb? Yes, it is. Two can play that game. The comment was unnecessary.

@Mike - It is not dumb to assume that if the other person is so very willing to call you an idiot that they are most likely a Trump supporter. That is what Trump supporters are infamous for when it comes to disagreement. HoweverI never once said that Kabuki was. That was your dumb assumption that made. I was just saying at least we are not trying to get Trump in as president and if anything could be assumed dumb, that would be it because he has no political experience, is not only arrogant and burn also quite ignorant when it comes to dealing with people and would screw up the whole country. Frankly I don't think it is dumb for Clinton to try to tap into this to get the Millennial vote. Whatever works as long as it is not hurting or interfering with others.

A lot of parents also use Pokemon Go as bonding time with their kids,

as they hunt Pokemon together, walking around the neighborhood,

spending time hanging out with each other and also with other parents and their kids doing the same.

@lostrune2 That's a great idea! If your kids are into it, why not? Showing your children attention is a good thing any way you look at it.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

If your kids are into it, why not?

Because according to some posters, if you are over 15 years old, you are not allowed to enjoy it, because those posters have decided you aren't allowed.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

when exactly is pokemon go supposed to go live in japan hopefully soon ........ all humans fear the unknown but are you seeing thousands no millions of Americans walking into traffic or off bridges no after one or two times people walk at a slower pace and pay closer attention thats embarassing bumping into things out in public and YES it is more distracting than anything else you would do on your cell phone even texting but people learn that fact quickly and adjust to it by slowing their walk or stopping frequently on their bike people are just going to become very careful also safety in numbers very quickly , which is a good thing to do no matter why your doing something on your cellphone so its just a very good thing to do and thats exactly what is happening so this worry and fear from some people youll see is unnecessary youll see pokemon go travellers are slow and careful and watchful

im in the US and have been playing about 4 days now im a 43 year old mom and have 3X the pokemon my youngest son has and it has nothing to do with wanting to bond with him have no idea how fun and addicting this game is and the last time i played any type of video game was frogger when i was about 13 and a lot of interesting new things will be happening in your neighborhood definately like groups of travellers with backpacks occasionally running amid rumours from another group of a rare pokemon spotting somewhere ;)

If this game continues to be popular or just level out, I foresee that the developers will be able to make a ton of revenue to have companies, etc. to set up meeting points in or near their stores. While ultimately it should remain the responsibility of players to be sensible and careful when they venture out in search of Pokemon, I think the creators would be wise to be careful about having their Pokemon lurking about in dangerous areas such as near traffic, in rivers and on private property where owners may not appreciate trespassers.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

There are already enough techno-zombies wandering the streets with their eyes glued to their little electronic babysitters. Given the already well known lack of spatial awareness of many people in Japan, this will only add to the hilarity/ frustration/ death toll.

If you want bonding time with your kids, take them to a park. Show them the wonders of nature. Listen to the birds. Spend a few minutes watching a pond and enjoying how the various elements come together in a natural symphony. The real world is far far more fascinating and deeper than any cartoon image flickering on a screen.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

This is probably the most fun game I've ever played. I spent five hours walking with people I had only just met trying to catch Squirtle. That aside, I agree that it is a bit insensitive to walk on other's private property, part of which is due to the player's ignorance. You don't actually have to walk right up to the Pokemon to catch it, just face its direction and tap it to encounter it. I imagine Japanese people will go crazy for this game. To all those who oppose Pokemon Go, sorry old-timers, but your words are falling on deaf ears. You are the quiet minority in the ever advancing age of the internet. Maybe you should move somewhere where the kids won't step on your lawn. Like Turkey.

Nintendo's stock rose and its worth 17 billion company now !!
