Rakuten accepting pre-orders for kobo mini eReader

TOKYO —

Kobo Inc, a subsidiary of Rakuten Inc, said Friday that the kobo mini eReader is now available for pre-order at http://kobo.rakuten.co.jp/ for 6,980 yen. The device will ship starting on Dec 18 and will also be made available at Rakuten Ichiba, Rakuten Books as well as at major home electronics outlets.

The kobo mini is the world’s smallest and lightest full-featured E Ink eReader available, offering the full Kobo experience at a great value. Proving that great things come in small packages, the 5” kobo mini easily fits in your purse or pocket and is loaded with all of the amazing features Kobo customers have come to know and love. Just like reading print on paper, the no-glare 5” E Ink screen is easy on the eyes – even in bright sunlight. The kobo mini is available in Black or White. Perfect for people on-the-go, young adults, and easy for first-time readers to hold and read, the highly portable kobo mini holds up to 1,000 eBooks.

In addition, the front-lit kobo glo eReader is available at 7,980 yen (tax included) and the kobo Touch eReader at 6,980 yen (tax included).

The kobo mini marks the company’s third eReader to launch in the Japanese market. With so many options, Kobo has an eReader to suit any taste or preference, and offers consumers the most comfortable reading experience available.

I had a look but it seemed to only display text. Do any of these readers (Kobo, Kindle) do photos, or even colour photos?

timtak: The e-readers can display graphics and comics, but not in colour. For that you want something like the Kobo Arc, which is more like a tablet than an e-reader and also isn't on sale in Japan just yet (maybe in the new year).
