10 years from now when twit and FB are long gone, you will be a happy person.

So they were all busy 'tweeting' instead of watching the game?!

Any stats on how many of those tweets were actually being read?

Julian - exactly! Twitter is 90% people spouting off comments that no-one ever reads (or is interested in), and 10% people actually making intelligent comment. Records like this just mean more people are spouting more pointless comments than usual.

At the speed some of these people could TXT, they could be doing both and some other things too.............

To all you tweeters out there.
STOP TALKING ABOUT YOUR LIFE AND LIVE IT.

Ah_so
I do not tweet, but I expect most of them were mind-numbing drivel, all starting with, "OMG!"
I will not write any more, knowing little about American Football, a sport that was ruined when forward throwing was instoduced in 1906.

I bet if Madonna have suffered another wardrobe malfunction for the Superbowl, the stats would have been much higher

Fodder for the masses while the masses are being dumped on.....

SuperBowl. Not of great interest to me since I live in Japan. If you like it, though, have at it. Same for Tweeting. It's the thing to do these days. Makes me laugh.

Foxie
It is unbelievable that this makes a headline.

SB beat the pregnancy announcement? Football more important than love? On this day, resounding yes. Great finish for the Giants.

Great Football game, congrads NYG fans, not many socker fans probably enjoyed here though...

Seriously, I don't know how this kind of story has any impact on your life unless you are working for Twitter or your job depends on such trivial info as this. What a shame that something like this has become news!

Never thought the U.S. would surpass Japan in -anything!- related to texting or tweeting. Never.
Is that good or bad?

"people are spouting more pointless comments . . ." Ohh, it completely clears up all my questions. I really should read earlier comments before spouting off. I'm laughing at myself.

LOL true but isn't that a bit of "the pot calling the kettle black?" The comments section of JT is also well known for being filled with pointless/baseless comments.

It was a great game. So talk about the game. The tweets?

I have Twitter... I think I've logged in twice. Waste of time, and meaningless.

Foxie It is unbelievable that this makes a headline.
It's worth it, but for a different reason than the article mentioned. As an IT professional I admire the thought and work that went into creating an infrastructure robust enough to support that burst of traffic. (Otherwise, tokyokawasaki summed it up in the first post: "Yawn")

Twitter is for the birds! Biggest waste of time, right up there with Yahoo, Facebook and Google+ !!

It was an amazing game!

The game was boring as crap (10-9 at halftime?!?!) and the commercials this year were rubbish. I had a better time watching the EPL games in the morning

Madonna's performance was great.

I agree, football is boring, but Madonna's performance was epic.

Twitter’s more than 100 million users sent more than 60 billion tweets last year....and a lot got done.

American football is one of the most complex teamwork sports, from the players on the field to the coaches on the ground to the coordinators at the top of the stadium. To be at the top of the game takes years of studying, such that it requires understanding thick playbooks and watching hours of film just for the next opponent.

I agree.

Complexity has no direct relation with dullness or not.
To a lot of people, it's dull. To a lot of people, it's exciting.
