With food prices rising like they are, maybe we will soon all be eating from such small bowls.

The advancement of science maybe? It's awesome that we're at this stage already. Soon billions of nanobots will be living in our bodies, repairing everything and preventing all kinds of diseases and aging itself. Go science!

“We believe it’s the world’s smallest ramen bowl, with the smallest portion of noodles inside.." you mean there's not a race to see who can make the most useless science project ? i'm shocked

This is funny. It reminds me of the perennial world's longest yakitori stick records. When most of the world isn't even in the running, you are sure to break records.

one in a few- A 'noodle bowl' would be a bowl made out of noodles. Clearly this is not the case :)

I have a problem with this. These guys play around with the tax money. Since they say "we did it for fun", and moreover the media praises their work, I can just feel frustrated at the way my taxes are spent. But I like to believe they just did it as a demonstration for some actually useful technology they are developing

I'd explain it just the way you did, Once. But the distinction in the cas of bowls is that teacups generally are used only for tea. A bowl is a more general peice of tableware.
