hey great news. But what were the inputs needed to grow the seaweed? And how does that compare to sugarcane which is hand-harvested?

If it can produce enough of its own energy needs to harvest, AND have enough left over for sale then that's good. Corn doesn't and sugarcane does but only because of manual labour with a machete.

If the machines underwater to harvest use more energy than the seaweed can produce then its not a winner. However these results are encouraging.

Yeah, but its E.Coli! Who needs an E. Coli factory in their town?

It's not E. Coli. They are using E. Coli to convert the seaweed into ethanol. Besides, you should know that you have E. Coli in your body right now! It's a common bacteria and not always harmful.

Is there a specific type of seaweed that this breakthrough specifically needs? Can the seaweed be "domestically farmed", or are there specific water conditions where these seaweed need to grow?

I hope the price of corn comes down now.

Using food for fuel on arable land was one of the dumbest things I ever heard of.

Anyone find another link on this? Post it if you do.

whats wrong with a e coli factory in your town, you have one in your stomach and that usually works out benefically to our species
