'Smart' high-tech dog collar goes on sale in Japan

No, no, this is wrong. On all levels.

I suppose a dog is seen as a family member, right? Why would you want to "monitor" a family member like this? I know the japanese like to put GPS devices on their kids (presumably for safety reasons) but this is going in the wrong direction. Just as any other living thing, pets need attention, care and love. To think that all is well just because you can head over to your denkiyasan and buy yourself some piece of mind is to me part of what is wrong with Japan. They believe shopping, electronic gadgets and stuff in general makes for a happy and successful society. It does not. If you get a dog, spend some damn time with it, instead of having it like some kind of weekend accessory.

They need to make the collar attachment alot smaller. Also better to get a patent before every single smartphone makers start manufacturing one.

And if they fitted this to some of the kids it would be the only monitoring they ever got.

What about the extension cord? Is the cord run through the body of the dog? Do you crank the tail to retract it?

What a load of useless rubbish! Turn your dog into a tamagochi.

I like the concept but I don't agree with having to pay monthly DoCoMo fees. I'd prefer a wifi version

Everything to get your pooch closer to you. How about one of these for the spouse? I think we can all benefit from something like this... why just dogs?

I'd like to see an app developed for children in the third world to see how many calories a day they are getting before we start worrying over whether or not the dog is sleeping.

why settle for less? buy your dog a smartphone!

Better yet - Do what I did and buy a whippet. The breed brooks no questions.

Very cool, how about something similar for one's children? Kidnapping and missing children all over the place, should at least be of some help.

Undoubtedly they will very soon offer designer versions -- LV, Chanel, Gucci, etc. -- and ones with gold and rhinstones. After all, they have to accessorize this to go with all the disgustingly kawaii outfits they dress their dogs in.

Not a fan of constant monitoring.
