...................More than 200 people lined up at Softbank Mobile’s outlet in Omotesando in Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward as it began selling the new iPhone, which has improved capability in shooting and editing video, at 7 a.m., earlier than usual..............

yeah people always start to line up out front of softbank about 10am to get in..........

Im a Softbank customer. Softbank sucks. I wont be queueing for this new iPhone.

  • gogogo at 05:34 PM JST - 27th June

They didn't have to wait at all there was so much stock

  • buggerlugs at 05:40 PM JST - 27th June

Yeah it's cause all of who would want the new one are stuck with a 2 year contract after paying softbanks prices and a lump in our throats from watching the price fall so quickly!! Yes I'm typing this from an iPhone that I paid full price for!! And although I like it I hate softbank!! Idiots that they are...

  • buggerlugs at 05:43 PM JST - 27th June

Oh and softbank take a cue from your Japanese compatriots like Aoki, force your suppliers and valued custmors with businesss to send their poor employees to purchase a handset each so it atleast looks popular!! Idiots.

or you could just get the officially unlocked iPhone from HK (via ebay / friend) - then updates are no problem.

but the SIM card is not a standard one from what I understand?

    No 1-seg? Still?

Apple releases a phone again that's behind the curve on what the Japanese phones already offer. Oh, but I guess it's got a glass face and is TRENDY.

There is a 1seg adapter for the iphone, I almost bought one but I still have another phone with it built in.

And why not just update to 3.0 and be done with it. I have a 2g and a 3g and I did the update and am happy with both.

As long as Softbank is the only provider, I will go for the iPod Touch. Or just stick with my 1st gen Shuffle.

Go for one of the Android phones instead - hardware is a year or more ahead of Apples, software is more open, and the apps are just as good if fewer in number.

But how many people were paid to be in the queue? We know that it's a well-used ploy in Japan. Stating how many were paid and how many actually went their of their own accord would be some better reporting.

    Agreed 100%

Yes Soldave, curse ghost sneaky Japanese and their well-known plots. It's a relief that we have intellectual luminaries such as you to check their vile plots.

  • motytrah at 09:44 PM JST - 29th June

You'd think apple would have added RF payment option to the phone for the J-Market by now.
