Sony Computer Entertainment Inc will release a new model of its PlayStation Portable game machine in Japan, other parts of Asia, North America and Europe from October. The new portable machine, PSP-3000, features a higher-resolution liquid crystal display and a built-in microphone, said SCE, a unit of Japanese electronics giant Sony Corp.
According to Japanese game magazine publisher Enterbrain Inc, PSP has remained the best-selling game machine in Japan for five months on end through July.
PSP owes its popularity in part to such hit software titles as Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable, according to industry sources.
In mid-July, SCE said cumulative PSP sales in Japan had topped 10 million units in about three years and a half since its launch.
An SCE spokesman said that the release of the new machine will help boost PSP sales during the coming year-end shopping season.

I am fine with new versions, but Sony are releasing them TOO quickly making the current owners lose out. Not to mention the waste caused for another model being discarded. Luckily I don't have one, but am considering buying this 3rd generation one.
