Test conducted in Ishikawa Pref to prepare for shift to digital TV

KANAZAWA —

The communications ministry temporarily suspended analog TV broadcasting service in Suzu, Ishikawa Prefecture, on Friday to prepare for the total shift to terrestrial digital broadcasting scheduled in two years.

The test was conducted for an hour from 10 a.m. to see if any problems might occur as a result of the planned end to analog broadcasting July 24, 2011, and to explore ways to help the public cope with the change in cooperation with local governments, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. In the first such rehearsal conducted in Japan, analog broadcasting from a transmission station in Suzu was suspended, with a message reading ‘‘sign-off rehearsal in progress’’ appearing on the screens of TV sets that are not made to receive digital television programs.
