"hitchBOT was able to tell the driver who gave it a lift when it was tired and in need of recharging from a car’s cigarette lighter" - article
It's always "me, me, me" with hitchBots. No wonder the freeloader met up with the wrong crowd. Hopefully hitchBot wasn't violated before he met his demise. There's a lot of sick robots out there.

Honor system doesn't work in America.

It's not even a robot. This is soooo stupid.

Had to happen sooner or later, because vandalism isn't a singularly American thing. But as a Canadian, I'm happy it didn't happen when it crossed its home country and Europe. I think it would have been equally as enjoyable to all the Japanese people I know, too.

Vandalism of hitchBOT would also happen in Japan as the recent incidents of vending machines are not faded away.

Sorry, but I'm inclined to believe hitchBOT's death warrant was signed the moment he was let loose between Boston and Philly. Yeah, it's cynical of me, I know, but I'm not surprised at all it was torn apart only 300 miles into its journey across the U.S.
