I believe Yulia Tymoshenko is commonly known as The Gas Princess, because her wealth comes from natural gas. I trust she won't be buying solar panels or wind turbines from Japan.

This selling of emission rights is such a huge swindle. It is just a tax on wealthier nations' citizens and another way to transfer wealth from them to poor nations, who take a cut and then transfer the money back to the wealthy and connected in those wealthy nations. I wish I could set up a bank in Switzerland, because I can see corrupt African leaders selling a whole hell of a lot of emissions credits. This is the biggest scam since they set up the World Bank and the IMF.

Greenhouse gas trading is bunk, pure and simple. If Japan really wants to show how green it is then it should clean up the 100,000+ toxic waste dumps around the country.

nice to see actions follow words as opposesd to just words and words here. Energy targetted credits work well and will work here too to provide incentives to Japan to cut emissions and for Ukraine to make change. A win win. I have no idea what complaint you can make on that.

the wealthier you are the likelihood you pollute more. Hence you can pay for emission fees and taxes. Poor have an energy credit while rich have an energy deficit. Thus wealthy pay for their emissions while poor refurb their economies. At some point it evens itself out in the marketplace.

thus inspired not to pollute as much will help wealthy grow up and stop treating this earth like a giant ashtray. It does not mean that they will be less wealthy, only their energy uses will be better scrutinized.
