I just buy a $300 netbook and throw it away when Windows fails. Disposeable computing.

For those who are planning to upgrade their VAIO P Vista OS to Windows 7, please be warned.. there is still some problem with Intel Drivers and you'll be disappointed if you think Windows 7 is the solution, in fact it is just a little bit of improvement from Vista, XP still is the best. If you would check on VAIO P , please be sure to test the graphics from standby or restart and you'll see what I'm talking about. You'll see the black squares slowly unshroud upon movement of mouse.

In China Windows7 has been sold since last month. Of course, copies with cheapest price.

I like Win2000 or maybe XPP < SP2. Win98se2, and when all else fails DOS will still do it.

If you can strip off most of the Microsoft crap an OS like WinBorg can be effective and run all the Windows crap you need.

Found a good article on the BBC site: http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8317005.stm

Seems a clean install is the best even if you already have vista installed.

Good luck people - one of these days I might upgrade to Snow Leopard!

Microsoft claims Windows 7 isn't a just a "working copy of Vista". It will be difficult for them to convince long time Windows users.

Buying Windows from micro$oft is pure madness, just insane! I bought a I MAC with Snow Leopard and LOVE it. If you have to learn a new OS why not switch to a decent computer? Having a 40000 yen is computer fine, the problem is losing all of ones files or the pain of restoration. The frustration of micro$oft does not make up for it lower costs and think of all the time wasted while it sits there with its hard drive chattering helplessly.

Yuri, it's not really the computer that matters, but the software on it. Mac computers are pretty overpriced for their specifications, but it's very difficult getting OSX to run on other computers (not impossible, but a real PIA). Windows is so popular, despite it's many drawbacks, because it works on just about any machine. I run Snow Leopard and Windows 7 on my macs and they're pretty much equal - in fact Windows 7 was much easier to set up from the start - far fewer extras to install after the initial installation. Windows 7 is more power hungry and makes the fan in my macbook kick off more quickly, but otherwise it's great.

Rebel EFI is a free demo and will do it ($50 full). Mac OSX on a PC.

-check the hardware specs and OSX specs.

Y38800 is big money these days: you can buy a computer for that.

I wonder why Windows still doesn't give you the choice of interface language when you log on? I think it's so they can sell Windows cheaper in China and rip off western consumers.

Nice one Badsey - hadn't heard of that one - looks good - I'll check it out.

Anybody going to get a Win7 Whopper from Burger King?

I'm going to explain to all my J-friends that "whopper" has a different meaning in english - a really big lie! Now that's delicious....

Just think, Win 7 is a whopper that is too big, consumes too many resources, clogs your system and slows the whole thing down.

I doubt they are going to try this ad campaign in the US!

Almost everyone here in JapanToday knows everything.

  • PepinGalarga at 09:47 AM JST - 25th October

I do have Win 7 and its a definite improvement over Vista, but as of today i have not seen a single piece of software or even drivers certified to work with Win 7.

who on earth buys a new OS release on day 1? Madness

If there weren't idiots buying products as soon as they are released then the bugs would never be sorted out before people with common sense bought them. You should be thanking these martyrs.

Then again, paying 38,000yen for an OS any time is pretty mad when they come with most computers in the first place (unless you are doing a self build of course).
