Agree with kanadamanada, except I think it's Paris Hilton. News programs are becoming more and more like Japanese-style wide shows. Especially CNN and the major networks in the States. How is the BBC? NHK seems to be keeping out of the gossip, for the time being. In Yahoo's case, I think there has to be a fair amount of pandering, or no one will check Yahoo for news. I usually check newspaper sites, like NYT or the Seattle Times. Oh, of course I check out JT everyday....

Would anyone expect more than gossip from Yahoo! news anyway?
Terebiko: Perez Hilton has a celebrity blog. Don't worry that you haven't heard of him.

You need to seek out your own news sources from like-minded people, and have realistic expectations. Don't expect major media outlets to enrich your mind, as that's not what they exist for.

"Yahoo Japan news editor says his own staff tend to pander to readers"
Like every other news website.

TanakaTaro, it's definitely Paris Hilton. She's pretty famous.
MeanRingo at 09:02 PM JST - 10th July
Hustla It's definitely Perez Hilton. Paris doesn't write about celebrity news. Perez does. Get up to date man.
TokyoHustla at 03:41 AM JST - 11th July
MeanRingo, I think you're spelling her name wrong...lol! It's Paris! Perez is a family name, not a first name!

Their not talking about the woman at all. Something entirely different.
Crimsonsil at 05:07 AM JST - 11th July
edit: They're not talking about the woman...

Not only YahooJapan. I find the English frontpage pretty vapid. To get a sense on the bigger stories in business and politics I try a wide array of souces (Googlenews, NYT, BBC, CBC Radio, Slate podcasts, etc.).
JT does not count. I'm here for the entertainment value - like FoxNews.

No, they are talking about her. Her name is Paris Hilton.

and a Bristish newspaper is prosecuted for hiring private detectives for bugging the phones and following politicians and celebrities so that they can write articles about them. I think many papers should be investigated for such pracitices of invading the privacy of people. This is a big crime!
LoveUSA at 10:18 AM JST - 13th July
PS: Of course the lawsuits for magazines/newspapers/sites that ignore law and morals will lead to disgrace, arrests and closing of the newspapers/websites. Illegal practices of stalking people, bugging their phones, following them for a boring piece of information are a low criminal offence prosecuted by law. Manipulating the information from people to increase the hits is also illegal and yahoo should reconsider their practises.

Perez Hilton is a celebrity gossip blogger, as TanakaTaro has said. He's pretty funny actually, but it's just gossip...
