American Airlines to charge $15 for first checked bag
Should change the title to "American Airlines to nickel and dime their customers"
I wonder what's to come next? Pay toilets? Guess I'd better bring extra coins if I fly AA (provided that airport security doesn't take that away too), as I can already expect the flight attendants to NOT have any spare change to provide if all I have is paper currency.
Also, I guess Mr. Arpey missed this logic lesson in while in college (or life...), if you're going to start to charge people to check in luggage, you better wholly expect everyone on the plane to load up those tiny overhead compartments to avoid paying the $15. Brilliant. Makes me want to know what diploma mill he got his MBA at.
I suppose customers are going to feel really great knowing that they paid $15 for the AA to loose their luggage. What a deal.
Instead of simply passing on every little cost to customers, I wish they'd look at other ways of reducing weight, like making seats and beverage carts out of polystyrene.
Sarge - I don't know, but if I was a 40kg Japanese girl, I'd feel pretty hard done by if I was asked to pay an extra $15 for baggage while Mr. 120kg only has hand luggage.
Replace the older (more expensive) fat flight attendants with younger and more shapely ones and that would reduce the weight of the crew.
Also, start charging airfare like postage and charge by weight. Why should the healthy and fit be punished and pay the same as those who weigh more and take up more space?
Oops... upon further investigation, I guess I won't be charged the extra costs for checking a bag. It seems that AAdvantage Platinum members are exempt from the surcharge.

Some Canadain air lines are simply upping the price of the ticket to pay for the extra cost of fuel.

Yes, I'm sure it's no problem for the remaining employees to pick up the slack.

Where is the fuel surcharge going to, if not to the extra fuel costs?

Altria - I guarantee you Mr. 120kg's hand luggage won't fit in the overhead compartment. And don't forget, he may be paying for two seats.

A la many budget airlines worldwide. Remember the old adage: "Pack twice as much money and half as much clothes." Works for me: http://www.onebag.com/

It's not my first checked bag, American. I've checked many a bag in my time.
