    the Asahikawa city office provided Asiana with a subsidy of 5,000 yen per vacant seat for three months from April when its flights operated at less than 70 percent of capacity

    I wonder how much this came to since June 2006? Probably the locals knew nothing about this subsidy. Kimchi barrel politics?

    Even if the locals didn't know about the subsidy, I'm sure most would support it- after all, it is their businesses that would stand to benefit from having Korean tourists spend their money in Asahikawa.
