TAIPEI —
In order to provide more meal choices to passengers, China Airlines added another tasty treat to its in-flight menus this month, when MOS Rice Burgers were served to economy class passengers on flights from Taipei to New York, Sydney and Brisbane. It is the first time that China Airlines has co-operated with one of the world’s leading fast-food chain restaurants.
China Airlines and MOS Burger has launched a new in-flight menu that includes Pork Rice Burgers, Burdock Chicken Rice Burgers, and Vegetarian Burdock Rice Burgers on select flights. In the near future, MOS Burger will also develop more in-flight dishes designed exclusively for China Airlines.
“We are constantly seeking to serve creative in-flight meals,” said Phillip Wei, China Airlines Chairman. “China Airlines is offering MOS Rice Burgers not only to bring passengers innovative and tasty meals at 35,000 feet in the air, but also to promote Taiwan’s agricultural products.”
When it comes to in-flight cuisine, China Airlines has always been committed to selecting fine, natural local ingredients for its passengers, such as flavorful rice from Taichung, Yunlin and Chiayi; crisp, tender burdock root from Taitung; sweet onions from Pingtung; tender pork from Yunli, Chiayi and Pingtung; and fresh local carrots from Kaohsiung, Pingtung and Chiayi.

Looks to me like the Taiwanese have taken a cue from Japanese and started pushing brand-name farm produce. Which is mostly nonsense of course. I saw the results of a blind taste test on TV once (not that anything televised is credible), in which a majority of Japanese panelists said they preferred the taste of generic "brand X" rice over some pricy strain, Koshihikari I think it was, from Niigata. Maybe illegal agricultual pesticides enhance the flavor!

Great idea, not even a salaryman can slurp hus way thru a Big Mac setto.
Peace at last while flying with the Japanese!!!

"Rice Burgers"
Never did understand that concept. A hamburger has to have a bun made from wheat flour and that's all there is to it!
Are they going to have MOS coffee shakes? I love those.
"this now opens the door for McDonalds to serve on US airlines"
Great buckets of bull$hit! The food on US airlines is bad enough as it is!

Well, given the recent history of China Airlines (see last year's incident in Japan) wouldn't they be better offering the 'flame grilled' delights of Burger King?

"Uh, really?"
Uh, yes. Really! Do your homework for once!

this makes no sense.. Mos Burgers? It would make more sense to serve Cocoichi on the plane. I would prefer to eat curry over a burger though the rice burger is pretty good at Mos.

Pretty cool concept, like others it would open the possibility for other airlines to serve stuff like McD's. Unfortunately I don't think they can keep the fries fresh on a long flight. At any rate a McD's big mac and nuggets probably has less fat and calories than the nasty meals they serve on most international flights.

Proof it before posting nonsense.
That's more than what McD will ever do.
temporaryVisa at 05:57 PM JST - 11th October
Oh yeah, I'm sure the pungent smell of hamburgers and fries will be an improvement to a long haul flight experience.
Pukey2 at 06:50 PM JST - 11th October
tempVisa: Agreed. Fast food is just going to stink up the whole plane. Having people eat it on trains is bad enough.

China Airlines added another tasty treat
Is a hamburger really a treat?

As long as they're not Made in China.......that pain you feel is your left artery slamming shut. Thank you for flying China Airlines. We hope to see you again.

I love COCOICHIBAN, but I don't think I want to be in a plane full of people eating at the same time.
Sarge, it's too bad for you. Rice burgers are lovely.
Dornier, a hamburger from Mos Burger can be a treat compared to some of the nonsense we get up there.

I completely agree with ICHINENSEI and Pivot! I also love the curried rice form COCO ICHIBANYA! My little brother came to Japan and had never tried Japanese style curried rice and he liked it more than Indian style curry. Mos is ok but we should let all the the major fast food chain restaurants compete for your dollars, yen, euros etc..up at 10 thousan meters! (How about some TACO BELL?
