Fiji's Air Pacific scrapping flights to Japan

TOKYO —

Air Pacific of Fiji will terminate its flight services linking the Pacific island country and Japan at the end of March 2009 due to the falling number of tourists from Japan.

The airline said it will scrap its flights between the major Fiji city of Nadi and Narita International Airport near Tokyo. Air Pacific currently operates three round-trip flights a week on the route. The company, owned 51% by the Fiji government, will also close its Tokyo office. Meanwhile, it will launch flights connecting Hong Kong and Nadi in June 2009.

So why the new routes to HK then? Perhaps the Fijians prefer to go to HK instead of Japan now.
