Save the forests: put it online.

Glad to see my tax money well spent. Might do better getting people to visit these places if there was ever any English information once you get there. You can only sit in hot water for so long, if you haven't been indoctrinated into believing it's something spiritual to sit in the nude, scalding your plums off with a bunch of naked, sweating old blokes.

    "enjoy these slimy tasty beans"

    Those beans are not tasty!

That guidebook had better have warnings about natto, fugu and mayonnaise on delivery pizza.

  • toguro at 01:19 AM JST - 11th June

Natto is actually pretty good, once you'v aquired the taste for it. But it is that, an aquired taste.

  • Fadamor at 04:59 AM JST - 11th June

They've got robots making the okonomiyake... how good can it be? http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nb20090610a1.html

    "Natto is... an acquired taste"

You can't taste it in raw. It's super yucky without a soy sauce.

I like Nattou and blue cheese or hung pheasant. I doubt the Japanese would appreciate a translation of the latter two either. Nearly wrote well hung pheasant! LOL.

Natto for the appetiser and Kusaiya for the main - wonderful!

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on Tuesday released an English guidebook on local cuisines as part of efforts to promote tourism in Japan’s countryside. Ten thousand copies of the guidebook titled ‘‘Japan’s Tasty Secrets’’ will be given out at Narita, Chubu and Kansai international airports as well as at travel fairs hosted in Asia, Europe and the United States, the ministry said.

We are living in the age of the Internet. Why not an electronic copy that can be downloaded from a website?

I ate some wanko soba once, and after that I took out some Life Insurance with the Kinki Insurance company!! Japan`s tasty secrets? What exactly is "secret" about them? Some of the "secrets" might be better remaining just that. Especially that vile natto stuff, and the equally nauseating chawan mushi - yuk.
