    Great. Merci Boku.

I was under the impression that Haneda would only handle flights to as far as the east China, Taiwan and Okinawa, etc.

Very good news. I live in the Tama zone and the trip to Narita takes me about three hours, making my trips to Europe even longer or forcing me to spend the night before the flight in a Narita hotel. I dream of the day that they open an airport in the Tama zone T_T

Great. How about some direct Haneda - L.A. flights?

    Great !

Narita airport should be demolished... Trying to fly between Paris and provincial Japan in the present state of things is a nightmare, with the necessity to commute between Narita and Haneda. Actually for flying from Paris to Kyushu I prefer the Korean route which gives me a convenient connection in the same airport.

On top of this, if actually middle of the night flights are operated it is going to be super convenient : taking off at about midnight means that you land in Paris at something like 6:00 am ; the flight is 100% in the dark of the night, if you are used to flying and if you do not have a couple of J-ladies yacking endlessly next to you you can expect to sleep an impressive number of hours. After collecting baggage and using ground transport, you reach Paris at about 8:00 am, just in time for your first croissant and ready for a morning meeting.

Of utmost importance is the kind of ground transport that will be implemented between Haneda and Tokyo City for those who finish their journey there : some fast train link is needed, the monorail having its terminal point not so conveniently located, and road transport whatever it is being hampered by the traffic jams at certain times of the day.

All right, time to pack the Luis Vuitton Paris store!

Nice if it opens up the floodgates and causes a drift from Narita. BUT, I suspect that it will be very popular, and as a consequence, very expensive copmared to the Narita flght, more than the 1,900yen fare on the Skyliner!

I wonder why they have carge flights draining capacity at NRT and HND? Why not shift all cargo to NRT and let HND serve the people? Then trucks would finally need to use the Aqualine to gain access to the ferry termimals around Tokyo Bay and Kawasaki!

I hope that the ministry of transport keeps increasing the capacity of Tokyo to have international air travel, both through the expansion of the only current international airport in Tokyo at Haneda and the civilianization of the airbase at Yokota, as the Tokyo governor wants. Hopefully we can then enjoy more direct flights overseas from Tokyo, and not just to Korea, China and France, as it is at present.

Another possible idea is building the first maglev out to Narita (I mean, do people in Tokyo go to Narita or Nagoya more often?) so people can get there from Tokyo Station in a comparable time to how long it takes to get to Haneda, and it won't feel like you are halfway to Ibaraki every time.

Anyway, it's nice to hear that people are addressing this issue, and lucky France!

    Peace

Haneda may have been a good idea back in 1964 during the Tokyo Olympics, but now Yokota airbase should also be opened up to international flights. From the western part of Tokyo (Tama,Musashi etc..)it is just a pain in the neck to go all the way to Narita. Haneda also sucks because of the way the trains do not go their directly, the monorail should start from Tokyo station or Shinjuku.

Imagine a really high-speed express along the lines of the JR Narita Express, but going faster and running from Narita to Tokyo Station to Haneda, with few or no other stops (maybe Ueno and Shinagawa). Easy connection from international flights to domestic rail and air. Now imagine the service has baggage handling, so we check bags right on the platform instead of lugging them on board. Just a thought....

Honestly, given the current state of transportation to the airports, it's easier for a tourist to get from central Tokyo to Narita than to Haneda. The Narita Express and the buses from TCAT work just fine. Open a direct line from Tokyo Station to Haneda (and add international flights), and that changes drastically.

A faster rail link to Narita is under construction and you can see the building work underway at the airport.

From Sendai there are no domestic flights to Haneda, so it makes little difference whether we go to Haneda or Narita.

Wow! That'll make it easier for people going in both directions to not fly either way because the world is sinking into an economic depression.
