Jetstar to begin daily Japan-Gold Coast service

Jetstar will change its current daily Sydney-Osaka-Brisbane service from Oct 1 to operate via
the Gold Coast in lieu of Brisbane, the airline announced this week. The flight change is a result of existing Japanese tourists ending their trips on the Gold Coast. Jetstar’s operating capacity on flights from western Japan to Southeast Queensland will remain the same.

“Our passenger data has consistently shown the majority of Japanese travelers who have flown the route currently disembark at Brisbane, when they are actually destined to complete their journey at the Gold Coast,” said Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce. “Jetstar’s decision to change this service was driven by market demand in the key Japanese tourism export market,”

The Gold Coast has become one of Jetstar’s leading Australian flight destinations with over 130 weekly return flights.

“Last year, Jetstar reached a landmark long term commercial agreement with Gold Coast Airport to operate in the future from a redeveloped multi-million dollar common user terminal facility. This agreement has been a catalyst for continuing to pursue existing and future growth in both international and domestic services from the Gold Coast, as highlighted by today’s announcement,” Joyce said.

The new schedule for Gold Coast flights will be published by Jetstar on Thursday.
