If airlines wish to discourage people from flying, this is the way to do it. The way it is going, airlines will end up catering only to business and first class passengers.

Skyrocket airlines, skyrocketing their ticket prices. Tickets for white house and travel, skyrocketing up in costs.

    smartacus,

The way it is going, airlines will end up catering only to business and first class passengers.

They may find that preferable. Business & first-class passengers pay more and more frequently. The peons in tourist don't travel as often and aren't willing to pay more. If a flight were only business and first class, I'm sure the airlines would make money.

Right, they might as well simply discontinue their economy seats here and now. There's no point in asking the normal citizen for half of their annual salary just for a flight from Hong Kong to KL. I wonder if these oil prices are going to improve horse and canoe sales?

Goodbye Malaysian Airlines. I flew with you three times last year, but I will not be flying with you again. As for the comment by this Malaysian Airlines guy that "Airlines cannot continue to subsidise passengers any more" What utter crap! British Airways are also charging rip-off prices, yet at the same thime they are raking in huge profits. Some airlines deserve to go bust. This whole oil price saga is being manipulated somewhere, and people like George Bush are making huge amounts of money as a result. Bush doesnt give a damn about ordinary people, and neither do most governments. Time for a change, and time to get the current people out of power - including in Japan.

Mind you, the raise of 80% fuel surcharge by MAS does not include all sectors. Other sectors raise are from 20% onwards so on and so forth. So don't freak, no airline deserve to go bust. There are always other airlines and other means to travel. Its a matter of service and convenience involved. With the oil price going up, its the only way to keep up. Indeed the Malaysia oil prices were heavily subsidized by the government. Hence Idris comment left much to be imagine.
