In addition to the fuel surcharge - look at the strong yen! On my trip to the UK next week, my shopping bill will be at least 30% less!

Travel abroad during GW and pay 2-3 times the normal price? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

What a joke! The yen is FAR better than normal, yes, but it's dropping daily as GW approaches, and methinks it won't be all that much above where it was at the end of summer last year by the time this May comes. What's more, the areas where Japanese pretty much always frequent if on tour have jacked up their prices exponentially, and while travelling mid-April is EXTREMELY cheap, GW is as pricey as ever (and the fuel surcharge is rising again, people).
Still, it's good for tourism, though not domestic. I'm sure that'll pick up too, though, with the ETC thing, though they'll find a way to make exceptions for GW travel.

the only holiday Japanese have. what
s the funny country, always together, from decision making to holidays. Im happy that I can decide when I want travel, that`s why I usually go when everyone is back to work and then prices drop to reasonable level.Yelnats at 03:31 PM JST - 7th April
I work during Golden Week and am glad I do. Why would I want to travel when the whole country does? The traffic is insane, the prices are very high, and it is so stressful, that you need a vacation after your vacation.

How does this tie in with the other story about travel going down due to recession? And how do all of these extra punters manage through the already crappy travel facilities (Narita, Kansai et al)?
