...most of these cultural assets were demolished

How does one demolish a "patch of ground"?

You are still playing samurai. I don't see the difference.

There was a Castle on the grounds there once. That was demolished.

No, the castle was long gone hundreds of, if not a thousand, years BEFORE WWII. It was indeed a patch of land, and to go into more detail, Senaga island was used as a munitions depot by the Japanese Army during the war which in-turn became a US asset after the war.

Believe it or not, there are still, an albeit small, number of people who still follow the ancient spirits, sacred grounds, etc around Okinawa. I went to a few of the sites myself this year and last, and most of the time it is quite literally, a tiny rock or a drawing on a stone OF a rock that used to be there.

People need to respect the religious beliefs of other people. If they say it is sacred grounds then it should be respected. I have been to Naha airport many times and it the air congestion caused in part from Kadena AFB and MCAS Futenma that limits flights. A second runway would only be so helpful and it would destroy more marine habitat that needs to be protected.
