I think Qantas is just trying to save it's own behind, which is quite natural. The Japanese economy is still in very bad shape and why waste time and money sending planes out here to Japan when you can always look for new and stronger markets in China, India and the Middle East.

Jet fuel rises with crude(USD 135 a Barrel) will cause jet travel industry to go belly up.
Jet travel industry need to ride over high jet costs, by new dynamic measures to cope with crude high price woes.
Time for new high tech, energy saving aircrafts and new alternative energy aircrafts , to be created by boeing/airbus/GE/RR and others.
Crude oil monopoly, will fall when new alternative energy systems and other new measures/ways start to be a threat to its rise.
Fight the demand for crude oil, via dynamic new alternative energy systems/ways, so that they will take a bigger slice of global energy bills.
