Qantas is on it's way down. With morons at the helm. Ship maintenance overseas to save a few dollars, but how many lives will it end up costing.... Cut the massive salaries of the morons and spend it on maintenance!

Qantas had quality maintenance engineers and pilots, that led to a great safety record. Now the corporate heads have gone offshore to save a few dollars while they line their pockets with fat salaries. Not a good recipie

Did the regulators burst into a Qantas board meeting singing that song from Grease?

"avoid future safety problems" like a plane crashing into the ground? No problem just have the plane crash overseas were the maintenance is done..Cheap maintenance and harder to sue and prove if crash is overseas.

So if Quantas maintenance is outsourced why does QUANTAS have to improve it's maintenance? Shouldn't the outsourced company improve? I hope it's not some Chinese company. I mean chinese and quality can't go in the same sentence without the word NOT somewhere in it.

Qantas's problems are a reflection of what's happening in Australia in general.

The problem with all the major airlines is the Government Transportation Agencies are out of the loop because of privatization and the airlines are looking for a fast buck. I worked in aviation maintenance. There`s a lot of weird stuff going on...

well looks like Mr never had a crash is gonna get one soon. Yes lives will be lost to stem corporate greed. But it will take a lot of lives. The greed in man sickens me.

Keeping in mind that the price of aviation fuel has DOUBLED in the past year, all airlines are looking to cut expenses. But I agree, if these cost-cutting measures lead to cutting lives short, then something's wrong and needs to be done. With the sky-rocketting costs of aviation fuel, I think the future of the aviation industry is going to be very turbulent indeed.
Maybe it's time to bring back the airships. Sure they're slow but they look very graceful in the sky. ;-)
