Shangri-La to offer free Internet access for guests

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is becoming one of the few international hotel groups to offer free WiFi and wired Internet to every guest as part of a group-wide initiative at all 60 of its Shangri-La and Traders hotels and resorts.

In response to the current economic downturn and its impact on business travel budgets, all Shangri-La guests will now enjoy unlimited high-speed Internet access in all areas of every one of the group’s hotels, including guestrooms, public areas, restaurants, lounges and function areas.

What does "...one of the few international hotel groups..." mean??? I'm making arrangements for a business trip in the U.S. in March and ALL of the hotels I've been checking offer WiFi and wired Internet access for free. Does it mean one of the few international hotel groups IN JAPAN?

    Just like Toyoko Inn then.

movieguy: Nearly all of the US hotels I have stayed in charged ~$15 per day for internet access. The home page may say "internet access in all rooms", but unless it explicitly states that it's free, it won't be.

Many of Japan's BUSINESS hotels, those little places for around US$100/ night offer free broadband service, in rooms and lobbys, even outisde of the major cities. Looks like the 5 star international hotels have some catching up to do. ANA, Hilton, Hyatt, Sheraton, and the rest all charge for it, even though their rooms may be 200-400 US$/ night.

Wow! what a wonderful idea. Now cut your rates about 75% and it might stimulate some interest.

In future no one stay will stay anywhere, without Internet(Wifi) entertainment/info, especially hotels ,far from homes. Multiply life by the power 1,000,000,000 users, who wants to miss it.

They've been charging for this up til now? On top of their excessive room rates? Who do they think they are, an airline?

Do companies pay to have this stuff written here?? Not news, just ads.
