United enhances Trader Vic’s menu for Japan

TOKYO —

United Airlines customers will now be served a new taste of the islands, as United enhances its selection of Trader Vic’s award-winning Polynesian cuisine on select flights.

United First and United Business travelers on flights to/from Honolulu and Japan and out of Japan to Singapore, Bangkok and Taipei can now enjoy additional tempting Polynesian-inspired lunch and dinner selections, with both customized menus and service schedules.

In United First, start with a fresh seasonal green salad offered with Trader Vic’s
crispy orange shrimp or Malayan beef strips. For your entrée selection, choose from
Braised short ribs in barbecue plum sauce, Pumpkin chicken curry or Sesame pink
peppercorn salmon with lime leaf beurre blanc sauce. In United Business, enjoy
Lemon shrimp and cocktail sauce with smoked duck, followed by Coriander crusted filet
tenderloin with black peppercorn sauce or Tikka chicken breast with mango ginger
chutney. All of the new menu options are created by Trader Vic’s Corporate Executive
Chef Paul Fabre, in coordination with United Corporate Executive Chef Gerry Gulli.

“Our new menu continues in the tradition of bringing the flavor and spirit of the
Hawaiian islands to the skies, elevating our customers’ in-flight experience and helping
begin their trips before they reach their destination,” said Mark Schwab, vice president,
Pacific.

Trader Vic’s Senior Vice President Sven Koch said, “Trader Vic’s restaurant
group is excited to continue the successful partnership with United Airlines. We are
particularly excited to carry this long lasting relationship into our 75th anniversary.
Our global expansion will reach over 50 locations world wide within the next 36 months and most of these locations will be United Airline destinations as well.”

Did 'trader' Vic enter the restaurant business after getting laid off in the credit crunch?

sounds yummy. Now for the rest of us in steerage it is still beef or chicken and $6.00 for a beer. Mine was completely inedible on a recent flight from SFO to KIX.

BTW now that the price of oil is back down well below 100/barrel any chance of lowering the fuel surcharges?

And for those in the cheap seats it's mystery meat with a side of generic food substances. I can't wait until they start charging to use the crapper! I'll find a new use for those barf bags in the seat pockets.
