ANA to paint the number 787 on its Dreamliners

TOKYO —

ANA, Japan’s largest airline and the launch customer of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, has unveiled the design of its third Dreamliner. The number 787 will be painted on to the front of all further ANA Dreamliners to be delivered in FY2012.

The numbers will be painted in big, bold, blue font at the front of the aircraft so that it is easily recognizable as the 787 Dreamliner.

The first two ANA Dreamliners already operating on ANA’s domestic service are painted with the numbers in a different shade of blue.

I've read reports that ANA could have received as much as a 50% discount from Boeing for their 787 purchase. They were the single largest purchaser. I'm sure this advertising is just a small token of appreciation.

They certainly had late-delivery penalties which were sizable due to the very late delivery schedule.

Nothing about doing Boeing a favor. This is strictly a marketing ploy to attract customers and attention.

Spot on Paul - Great Advertising for ANA, Great Advertising for Boeing, doing what any public company accountable to shareholders shoudl be doing..trying to make more money. Nothing to criticise here at all. Looking forward to trying it out for myself in a couple of weeks on a tripto Hiroshima.
