Delta to enhance inflight coffee experience

Delta Air Lines and Seattle’s Best Coffee, part of Starbucks Corporation, have partnered to offer Delta customers freshly brewed coffee onboard all domestic and international Delta and Delta Connection flights.

“A premium customer experience requires premium coffee and Delta is proud to serve Seattle’s Best,” said Tim Mapes, Delta’s senior vice president of marketing. “During inflight taste testing, we saw firsthand the passion Delta customers have for coffee and for the role it plays in a superior travel experience.”

In December 2010, Delta customers participated in an inflight coffee taste test confirming one of its new coffee blends, Level 4, as the coffee to be served onboard. Seattle’s Best Coffee recently launched a radically simplified approach to packaged coffee called The Level System, which ranks coffee from 1 to 5 based on roast intensity.

“As two organizations who care about creating a distinctive premium customer experience, Delta and Seattle’s Best Coffee make a perfect pair,” said Michelle Gass, president, Seattle’s Best Coffee. “Existing Seattle’s Best Coffee fans will be delighted to find their favorite coffee on their next Delta flight, and for those not yet familiar, it is an opportunity for us to introduce our great coffee to Delta’s more than 160 million global travelers each year.”

In recent months, Seattle’s Best Coffee has signed agreements with other widely available brands such as Burger King, Subway and AMC Theatres. This diverse distribution network has rapidly expanded since the coffee company reinvigorated its brand in May 2010. With the addition of Delta Air Lines, there are now more than 40,000 places where customers can enjoy a freshly brewed cup of Seattle’s Best Coffee, up from 3,000 in 2009.

New in-flight menu for new promotion campaign, Delta lures more Seatle's Best Coffee fans to fly with Delta.

It's hard to enjoy good coffee with no elbow room to lift the cup.

Maybe if they served regular coffee and not starbucks, they could reduce our air ticket prices by ¥5000. I would prefer that.

Delta needs to enhance much more than just coffee...

Delta is horrible. Try their special order meals. They make them so bad that you want the regular coach meals.

@goddog:L At least be consistent in your posts. This is what you said a couple of weeks back:

"goddog at 09:20 AM JST - 18th February

I special order a meal from them on every flight. Try the Muslim one. Not bad. Hindi one sucked as well as the Kosher one. Veggie was passable."

Wow! All these years I have been comparing SBC to Starbucks and I just discovered that in 2003 Starbucks BOUGHT SBC! Who would have thought!

It is funny the title is "enhancing inflight coffee experience" because every time I have been to SBC, the coffee has been over-roasted, too hot, and had a burned taste to it.

I wonder if the will start charging fivebucks for a cup of "fivebucks" on Delta?

Coffee prices are going up, so it won't be long before we see a coffee surcharge, in addition to the luggae and fuel surcharges.

over-roasted. I hate "seattle-style" coffee and wish that the fad would pass.

The best popular brand coffee in America is Peet's - and they don't serve it on the plane anywhere that I know of. I think coffee on long international flights is appropriate at breakfast, prior to landing, but not at the end of a heavy dinner with hours and hours to go before landing - it makes you nervous and tense and you can't sleep easily either. Decaf may be the best choice for long flights.
