Double Elite Qualifying Miles with United Airlines
United Airlines is offering Mileage Plus members a quicker way to reap the benefits of elite status.
Customers who book and complete travel by June 15 will earn double Elite Qualifying Miles (EQM), gaining quicker access to the complimentary perks offered to those who have status in United’s Mileage Plus program.
For example, a customer traveling round-trip, non-stop between Chicago and Tokyo on United normally receives 12,548 EQM. With the double EQM offer, a customer would receive a total of 25,096 EQM, enough for Premier Status in the program.
United’s elite customers enjoy an array of benefits, including complimentary seating in Economy Plus, which offers up to five extra inches of legroom in the economy cabin, when available at time of booking. They may take advantage of priority check-in, security and boarding lines, as well as complimentary upgrades.
United’s most frequent travelers benefit from additional bonus miles accrued on each United flight, meaning more quickly earning miles for travel to destinations around the world served by United.
The EQM also count toward United’s Elite Choice program, enabling customers to choose from awards such as restaurant gift certificates and bonus miles when they reach specific flying milestones.

Hmm, I'll have to look into this. Thanks! I plan on doing quite a bit of traveling between the States and Japan in the next two years.

The main benefit for me to being Premier is the extra 5 inches of legroom you get in Economy Plus. But since United is now selling Economy Plus seating for $349 per year, it's less expensive for me to travel less, let my premier status lapse and just pay for Economy Plus.
