Ebook guide to hiking and biking in Chikuma City, Nagano

Chikuma City author and resident, Peter Ninnes, has published “Hiking, Walking and Biking Nagano: 20 Nature, History and Culture Tours in Chikuma City,” covering 8 town walks and 12 mountain hikes in this centrally located city just two hours from Tokyo.

For residents and visitors who have already done the well-known big cities and tourist trails, this detailed English language guide makes an enchanting part of Japan highly accessible, resulting in a more interesting and enjoyable visit for users.

“I was inspired to write it by my own hiking, especially experiencing the breathtaking vistas, peaceful forests and diverse history of the area”, said Ninnes. “At the same time, I had to do a lot of research in Japanese to find the routes and the facts about the places. So I figured providing all that information in English would make life easier for visitors and help them get a lot more out of their trip.”

The book is available on Smashwords at http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/109305. For a limited time (until Dec 24), buyers can get a discount by using the coupon code MK94M when purchasing. A single purchase of the book gives readers access to a range of formats for their personal use, including versions that can be read on portable devices such as Android and Windows phones, Blackberry, iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Kindle, as well as on desktops and laptops.

In addition to maps, photographs and detailed English descriptions, the ebook includes kanji for key points on the route, advises when to hike, provides GPS coordinates for the starting points, and has hyperlinks to the relevant Google map. Once users have downloaded the book onto a phone or other portable device, they can use it to find the starting point, and then carry it on their hike and check the route as they go.

Finally, a guide book that answers so many questions that visitors to this corner of Nagano have. I run an inn in the onsen town here, Togura-Kamiyamada, and it looks like the author has done his homework to research the area's historical and cultural significance. I'm sure this guide book will entice more of our English-speaking guests to get out and explore the area instead of just seeing the snow monkeys and leaving.

My attention was caught by this book because I really want to visit Japan because I've seen pictures and details of different places from the free e-book travel guide I downloaded from http://bookboon.com/. Perhaps, I should include this hiking experience in my bucket list.
