JAL cuts flight frequency on domestic routes

TOKYO —

Japan Airlines is to temporarily reduce flight frequency on certain domestic routes in efforts to maintain profitability as travel demand declines following the March 11 earthquake. Services will still be maintained on these routes, just with a fewer number of daily round trip flights between May 9 and June 1.

During this period, JAL will reduce up to a total of 9 daily round trip operations on 6 domestic routes - 5 of which originate from Tokyo (Haneda), to Sapporo, Osaka (Itami), Fukuoka, Kagoshima and Okinawa (Naha).

If the routes are unprofitable, they should be chopped, plain and simple, and not "temporarily." This foot-dragging approach by JAL has already cost us taxpayers billions. Stop the waste now.
