JAL, Iberia to codeshare to Madrid

TOKYO —

Japan Airlines (JAL) and Spain’s largest air transport group Iberia, both members of the airline alliance oneworld, have started codesharing on flights between Japan and Madrid via Europe. The flights operated by Iberia go between Madrid and two of JAL’s online destinations in Europe - London and Frankfurt.

Up until October last year, JAL offered customers a connection from Tokyo (Narita) to Madrid via Amsterdam, by placing the ‘JL’ flight code on Iberia flights between Amsterdam and Madrid. The codeshare arrangement was suspended when JAL terminated its nonstop service to Amsterdam in October. Now, JAL and Iberia have reached a new agreement to offer customers flights to Madrid via Frankfurt or London - to which JAL operates a 777-300ER equipped with the airline’s award-winning Executive Shell Flat Seat and Premium Economy service.

Watch out for all the thieves on the Madrid subway, there are many of them operating in groups, especially on the line to the airport.
