JAL to offer premium economy service on Narita-Sydney route
TOKYO —
Japan Airlines (JAL) will introduce a premium economy class service on the Narita-Sydney route starting from Dec 1. The once-daily flight, also equipped with the airline’s JAL Shell Flat Seat in executive class is operated with a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft.
The JAL Sky Shell Seat, which won the 2008 Good Design Award, is one of the world’s first shell-shaped seats available in premium economy class. It boasts a 9-inch personal TV screen and provides 20% more legroom than regular economy class with its shell-shaped sliding seat-back design which ensures passengers’ private space is maintained throughout the flight, undisturbed even when the seat in front is reclined. Special meals are also served onboard, with a variety of light snacks and beverages available.
At the airport, passengers can take advantage of the dedicated premium economy check-in service at both Sydney and Tokyo, along with access to the airport lounge. Baggage services offered include a 30-kg baggage allowance—an extra 10 kg per person above the usual economy class baggage allowance, and priority baggage service.
The premium economy class is also available on routes between Narita and JAL’s main gateways in Europe—London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris and Moscow, as well as the four destinations in mainland USA served by the airline: New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Special introductory return fares on sale in Japan start from 147,000 yen (excluding taxes).

"Premium economy". What a horrible expression. It's like "Elite scum". I'll stick to good old-fashioned Economy Class till I win the lottery.

Way too expensive. I'll fly jetstar, thank you.

Haha I am going to Australia around Christmas for three weeks for 75,000 incl. taxes and the lot(in flight ent. and dodgy meals). Anyone not willing to take the flight for almost half price is bonkers. I wonder how much the executive shell seat costs?

JAL premium economy: too expensive
Jetstar economy: I have too much self-respect to travel with them again.
Nope, Qantas economy is fine with me, at least until V Australia starts making port calls at Haneda.

I hate it when the person in front puts their seat back, it's like thank you for taking my space... I generally knee them in the back a few times just to show them you are crushing my legs... glad to see at least these seats have the space preallocated.

But nothing beats Korean Air... the food, the stewardesses, the entertainment. been flying with them twenty years and I'll never change. (Unless ANA come up with some super-cheap option ;) )

and it's a quality control problem that's at issue, especially for Qantas passengers bound for New Zealand via Australia.

Premium Economy is pretty nice, I took the upgrade to Chicago a while back and it's worth the money.
