Oakwood Premier Tokyo

You’ve been at work in a foreign city all day. Coming “home,” the last thing you want to do is go out to another restaurant, buy some fast food or even leave the house. What you really want to do is to kick off your shoes, get out of your work clothes and chill on the couch with a cup of coffee or a beer, maybe put on some music or watch TV before making yourself a home-cooked meal.

As you think about it — it’s probably time to do a load of laundry and check in with family or friends back home. And since you're here working, maybe you can finish off that proposal you were working on — with a glass of your favorite wine and a view of the Tokyo skyline at night to help inspire you. All without leaving the comfort of your digs. That’s what you’d really like to do with the little bit of time you have to yourself.

If you were staying at Oakwood Premier Tokyo — easily the most sophisticated serviced apartment or home away from home you’ve ever stayed at — you could.

Serviced apartments have become more popular in Japan, lately. While not a new idea, they were previously the domain of corporate staff posted away from home for a few weeks or months, or for budget-minded (and in-the-know) entrepreneurs who wanted a little freedom from hotels. These days, however, the serviced apartment has become a little more mainstream and a lot more innovative.

In a nutshell, a “serviced apartment” is just that: a well-appointed, private living space you can call home temporarily that also provides some of the same services and amenities as a hotel, should you need them. Basically, these suites — such as the ones at Oakwood Premier Tokyo — provide all the comforts of your own condo in a new city.

From the moment you walk in, you feel right at home. The apartments (which range in size from studios suitable for one person to one-, two- and three- bedroom suites suitable for the whole family) are fully furnished as if you’ve been living there for years (with access to a top-notch interior decorator) and have a very modern and upscale decor. Throw your coat on the sectional sofa with views over the city, loosen your tie and head to the fully-equipped kitchen (the ones at Oakwood Premier Tokyo feature full-size refrigerators, convection ovens and IH cooktops, dishwashers as well as incidentals like coffee machines, kettles, toasters and the like) to make dinners at home for yourself — or invite over friends and colleagues for a little get together.

The rest of the apartment is outfitted with flat screen TVs in both living and bedroom, washer and dryer for laundry, air-con and even ambient lighting. The bath area has a large soaking tub or a drenching rainfall showerhead (some have both).

The other advantages to serviced apartments are the hotel-like extras. These range from basic concierge services (tickets to the latest shows and movies, transport arrangements, information on just about anything you need... 24-7) to dining and fitness services.

Did your laundry (ahh… cotton shirts fresh out of the dryer!) but don’t like ironing (who does)? Just pick up the phone and call resident services — they’ll have your clothes pressed and returned to you. Problem connecting to the web (all rooms feature wired and wireless internet access)? In-house help is just a phone call away.

The lobby floor of the Oakwood Tokyo Premier has an easily accessible seating and dining area for meetings and breakfasts — which, by the way, are served as a continental buffet — along with a host of foreign and domestic newspapers and magazines so you can catch up on all the world and business news you need. It also has a 24-hour, self-serve coffee and tea bar. And if you’re having trouble sleeping or feel a bit restless, there is an actual bar for you to order a quiet nightcap and gaze out over the evening cityscape — all just a quick, private and secure elevator ride away.

The Oakwood Premier Tokyo is located right at Tokyo station (on the Yaesu side), which — besides being extremely convenient for travelers arriving from outside the city — also makes it convenient for commuters once you’re here.

Prices at Oakwood Premier Tokyo start at ¥40,000 for a studio apartment. While they are available for one or two nights at a time (hotel style), the cost becomes considerably more economical for month-long stays or more.

If you’re planning an extended stay in Tokyo, it’s time to stop thinking about hotels and time to consider a serviced residence at Oakwood. Privacy, security and freedom in your own upscale apartment suite with everything you need — plus the added benefits of hotel-style concierge services, dining and other amenities.

The convenience of an Oakwood Premier Tokyo apartment will have you feeling like you’ve already settled into living in one of the world’s greatest cities from the moment you walk in. Welcome home.

Unfortunately my company refuses to triple my salary for this, lol.
