“Once upon a time, there was Orihime, princess of galaxy, lived on a side of Milky way, fell in love with Hikoboshi, who lived on the other side of the Milky Way. They were only allowed to meet once a year on the night of July 7, when magpies frame a bridge over the Milky Way for the couple.”
This romantic myth is still loved and treasured today as Tanabata (Star Festival) among the Japanese, especially by young ladies and couples. Traditionally in Japan, people decorate bamboos for July 7 with colored paper strips on which they write their wishes and pray to Orihime and Hikoboshi.
The Lobby Lounge at the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo has prepared a scene to celebrate this special day with the special evening tea menu “The Star Festival”.
