If you find yourself looking for somewhere to go drinking in Osaka this month, you might want to consider Nakanoshima Station. You may be wondering how you’re going to have fun at some random train station, but fear not! For four nights, a platform and train are going to turn into an izakaya (Japanese-style pub).

From June 22 to June 25, the 3rd platform at Keihan Nakanoshima Station is going to transform into a throwback izakaya. Tables and low dining tables will be set up along with "irori" (Japanese-style fireplaces) in order to set the mood for this trip down nostalgia lane.

Patrons will be able to order beer and sake along with oden, cup noodles and other popular food items from the Nakanoshima area. You’ll be able to enjoy them both on the platform and on the 2200 series train that will be parked there.

Entry will cost you only 1,000 yen and that includes a drink ticket. But you’ll want to make sure you get there early in the evening, because this izakaya closes at 9:30 p.m. You and your friends can revel in the unique setting, but you can also check out the accompanying exhibit explaining the history and culture of Nakanoshima.

Event Information Nakanoshima Station Platform Izakaya 中之島駅ホーム酒場 Address: Osaka-shi, Kita-ku, Nakanoshima Go-chome 大阪市北区中之島五丁目 Dates: June 22 – June 25 Open: 5 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. (last entry at 9 p.m.) *Entry on Saturday, June 25, begins at 2 p.m.

I suppose there will be ashtrays on every table.

This is forgivable because of the novelty. However, hate it when I see a "table fee" or "entrance fee" to a normal izakaya.

They are doing this because they are becoming desperate to justify building the Nakanoshima line, which is largely not used at all, with the stations being a very short walk from the original Yodoyabashi terminus on the Keihan main line.

And if you were to go Nakanoshima station today you would see that the pillars in the station have giant sheets hung and folded in between them to form what looks like huge underpants with pillar legs. Wish I could post the photo I took

Sounds very cool.
