Why not?

Because crazy fundamentalist christians need Israel according to their end-times scenario. It's in the holy book of that religion of peace known as Christianity.

closer and closer to the Biblical Armageddon.

My gut feeling tells me that this Jerusalem move was done just to steal the headlines away from the US's failure to oust Assad as well as Russia and Syrian victory. The deep state sure as hell can't give any credit to what Russia/Putin and Assad has done to rid the world of these US/Saud/Israeli/other Gulf nations proxy head choppers.

Palestinian Christians -- Christians who can trace their roots back to the time of Jesus -- are as much subject to the daily violence of Israeli occupation as Palestinian Muslims, so of course they're opposed to Trump's move.

Fake evangelical Christians in America -- Christians who can trace their roots to no earlier than the 18th C -- support Trump's move not because they love Jews, but because they see Jerusalem as the staging ground for Armageddon.

There is no country of Palestine, therefore it doesn't need a capital city. Simple. First things first people.

As for the naming of Jerusalem as capital of Israel, it's only common sense. That is the city where the Israeli government is, so of course it is the capital. Trump making it official isn't a surprise move. American Presidents from Clinton to Bush to Obama have all loudly proclaimed the same thing. The only difference is that Trump may actually finally do something about it.

but he is a man who is desperate to keep his base

And that is an error in your skewed judgment.

And that is an error in YOUR judgment. Raising a flag and proclaiming a country by force is what globalists do. Kind of like the French in Vietnam, the Brits in India and the Americans in Hawaii.

Anyway, good move on Trump!

Fizzy; except that isn't what happened. The UN had already made arrangements for Israel to be independent. Then, four neighboring Arab countries chose to invade, got their butts kicked (as usual), and the rest is history. Palestinians left the lands assigned to them by the UN in hopes of someday returning. Jews in Arab/Muslim countries were kicked out and fled to Israel. The displaced Jews were welcomed in Israel, the displaced Palestinians were routinely abused and ignored by other Muslim 'brother' countries.

Quote: "...at a State Department briefing in Washington, spokeswoman Heather Nauert said that despite the"inflammatory rhetoric" from the region, Trump "is committed to this peace process. She said his decision did not affect the city's final borders, which were dependent upon negotiation between Israel and the Palestinians."

Hahahahaha..... dream on woman. 'Negotiations'? When have negotiations ever succeeded between these two? They are not even on an equal footing. Sadly Trump has forced affairs to the point where East Jerusalem should now be declared the capital of Palestine, for reasons of organic balance. Even if Jordan is not happy about it.

History question:

Who lived there when the Romans conquered the region and it got named 'Pale stine' by them.

What about after the Romans left, who controlled it afterwards over the centuries and millenary?

"Anyway, good move on Trump!" -bass4funk

Typical trumpette analysis. Low on input besides a knee-jerk "San Dimas high school football rules!" No analysis of the very active, nut-case belief of bringing about a war to raise the faithful to their gods group flourishing in th USA and the USA's president pandering like another quick-fix loser in a long line. No realistic debate of the reality that both side fail to comprehend that they might actually share a capital. Not mention of the complete lack of Israel to tow the USA's line (reason enough to cut them dry) or the region's Arab nations refusal to get over their sadistic, jew-hating policies. Kudos. Rock on. Make America's rich richer again.

wow. Skipping over 3 decades of British involvement for caucasian Jews immigrating into what was considered Palestinian/Arab land. You are asking for a christmas gift that will never be given.

For those that care to educate themselves about Palestine.

There is no country of Palestine

There is. It's the place where Palestinians live. But perhaps you're looking for some more legalistic definition.

My father told me he served in Palestine in 1947. My Stanley Gibbons postage stamp catalogue of 1949 lists stamps from Palestine ( but oddly none from Israel).
