This is exactly what I was afraid of, more and more violence in this very sad part of the world! NMRK!

Wild fire of social unrest is spreading everywhere creating instibility in the Middle East. All dictators of poor economy and social injustice spend many sleepless nights. This wild fire may eventually spreads to China.

The 1983-2005 north-south civil war killed more than 2 million people.

Is it a civil war? Seems religious to me, Muslims killing non-believers.

Another former colony that The Brits completely botched.

    What???

Anyway, it's great that these guys got a referendum passed for independence, and I wish them the best of luck. Hopefully this kind of renegade general is a rarity, and is quickly shut down. Last thing these people need is more war.

This in many cases is an accurate description. Thats part of what the fighting was over. The Muslim north, and the Christian south. And thats why they separated. In this particular case though, based on the article above, I don't believe its the case. This particular rebel ran for Governor, lost and decided to take his men and go back to fighting.

Thanks for explaining that. odd isn't it how left progressives are all about identity politics but when presented with situations like the divisions to be found in Sudan they dismiss the differences that define the 2 groups and come here with the mushy "well we are really all one" nonsense or vague insincere wishes of good luck.

Northern and Southern Sudan were never one country until the Brits joined them together to stop Egypt taking the north and becoming too powerful in the Middle East region. Northern Sudan is linked to the Arab world, while Southern Sudan is linked to the African world. They are culturally, religiously and significantly racially different. Most of the rebels still in Southern Sudan are the returned child soldiers previously taken to the North, converted to Islam and trained in warfare.

The 1983-2005 war was most definitely a civil war with one part of the country fighting another. As with other civil wars (for example, the American civil war), it was a case of two groups fighting for control of the country. The differences may be ideological, political, religious or racial, but that doesn't stop it being called a civil war.
