11 killed, 25 injured in explosion in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO —

At least 11 civilians were killed and 25 injured Friday in an explosion in eastern Sri Lanka blamed on Tamil Tiger rebels, on the eve of a key provincial council election.

The Ministry of Defense, Public Security, Law and Order said in a statement that rebels of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam exploded a bomb inside a hotel in the town of Ampara, in Eastern Province, around 5:45 p.m.
