Jeeeeeez! What kind of mine was it that it could kill so many? A claymore? Regardless of the type, it is no less tragic. These people have been screwed over so badly, and still suffer... and it was all for nothing.

4 to 6 million mine?! Thats too much for them to handle. Is it possible to breed cows to run over stray field? Will they trigger the mine if they step on it, i think they are heavy enough to do so right?

Read a little history about Cambodia between 1975 and 1979 when it was ruled under Khmer Rouge and about S-21 (Tuol Sleng) and you can decide for yourself if it was worth it to fight the KR.

A claymore is a band shaped explosive with the convex side pointed toward the enemy. It is almost never used underground. In fact, it is not really a mine. It is a standard all purpose charge with shrapnel, I would say. If it were a claymore, they would have seen it.
But I did wonder the same thing. holy smokes how does one mine kill 14 people? I guess it could have been a huge charge, and with 6 of them riding the tractor, with eight others behind, if the whole tractor would have come apart, I guess that would do it.
Chinese TM46 or some other antitank thing, probably. Hard to imagine one anti personnel mine doing so much damage.

OK, I think I know what they were trying to say, but as it's written I doubt they have "4 to 6 million land mines and other unexploded ordinance" explode every year.

Because they're just stupid enough to do it. Although I'd front more inexpensive livestock like goats, you can feed those things anything and they breed like rabits.
They're also very expensive and I doubt cambodia could afford them. Might be better off rigging up more of these home made tractors to set them off.

Agree Cambodia like many other places still gotg way too much unexploded ordnance.
Setting of an anti-tank mine = bad news, those are designed to blow the tracks of a tank = Biiig Boombah.
Friend of mine in South Africa used to do the search for mines and bombs while he was in the service.
No easy way to find them now. Takes a lot of money and man-power(much of which will be lost).

I was down there about 5 years ago helping children that had limbs blown off from landmines do some rehab. I couldn't believe the number of children, as well as adults that had one or both legs missing due to landmines. It was so sad to see. Cambodia definaately needs some help in removing those things.
And to the 14 that just died, RIP.
