Wish they find happiness, it can be hard and it is amazing how people want to deny it to others. Just because they are not like them.

A sad and disgusting example of the extreme erosion of morals and ethical standards in the modern USA,. Everyone has the right to practice their own choices in private but to support dysfunctional practices with public legislation that enforces the wishes of a minority is a sad example of the modern wave of imposed liberalism. It will return to sanity eventually but for now, we are forced to see such propaganda manifested into public policy in spite of the vast majority of citizens in the US being gravely concerned and totally against such bizarre tactics.

They are same sex marriages and not pot heads.

    CrisGerSan; LOL.

Regarding the article; Good news this! I was at the mass partnering in Brighton in the UK years back and it was a great day for all involved.

"As gays and lesbians prepared for their nuptials in Washington state, the U.S. Supreme Court stepped into the fray over gay marriage on Friday by agreeing to review two challenges to federal and state laws that define marriage as between a man and a woman."

It's quite possible the usual suspects on the Supreme Court could spoil the party. They will allow politics and religion, instead of law, to influence their decision.

to support dysfunctional practices with public legislation that enforces the wishes of a minority

With the high divorce rate these days, isn't it heterosexual marriage that could be viewed as disfunctional?

And you believe that the wishes of minorities should be ignored? Which other minorities' wishes do you feel should be ignored, or is it just gay people you feel should be discriminated against?

Has Obama sent congratulatory message to them?

I'm a Seattle native and so, so proud of this I could cry. I've watched so many close friends struggle just to be happy together in the face of terrible discrimination and violence. This is truly something to celebrate.

CrisGer, the only disgusting thing here is your opinion.

...public legislation that enforces the wishes of a minority is a sad example of the modern wave of imposed liberalism

You can't be serious; are you really saying that it's 'sad' for a country to protect its minority groups?

No, this is not a temporary stage of dysfunction or whatever you would like to believe -- like the Civil Rights movement, like women's suffrage, this is another advancement in compassion and proper, equal human rights for all.

You are welcome to disagree with same-sex marriage and therefore not marry someone of the same sex. Allowing same-sex marriage has absolutely no consequences for anyone opposed to it -- aside from keeping them from forcing their discriminatory beliefs on the rest of the public.

Congrats to all the newly-weds! May they find ever-enduring love and happiness. Great that they're finally being treated by human beings.

some14some: "Has Obama sent a congratulatory message to them?"

To my knowledge he doesn't send a congratulatory message to everyone who gets married. You get one? I didn't.

CrisGerSan: 50% or more of heterosexual marriages in the US end in divorce. How is that 'functional'?

"...in spite of the vast majority of citizens in the US being gravely concerned and totally against such bizarre tactics."

Obviously the vast majority is NOT 'totally against' it at all. But you're free to practice your hatred in private. :)

Ah Smith-san and me agree on something. Cris not long ago people in America were against different race marriage. Used a lot of the same argument. Who they marry is their business not yours.

Yay! The US is slowly but surely progressing to the 21st century. :) Hopefully within the next decade it'll all be completely legal, everywhere in the country.

YuriOtani: "Ah Smith-san and me agree on something. Cris not long ago people in America were against different race marriage. Used a lot of the same argument. Who they marry is their business not yours."

Indeed we agree. Sadly, though, there are STILL a lot of people in the US and other nations against interracial marriage (a lot of Japanese and SK are included, although the former in particular isn't as verbally or physically active against it -- they just grumble about it unless they see a foreigner after an enkai). And it's not just marriage, either -- people like Cris actually believe homosexuality is some kind of abnormality and a life-choice, whereas it is completely biological, and 10% of the human population is gay, with even more being bi-sexual. It's a bit sad when you realize that homosexuality was accepted in Ancient Rome and other cultures way back when but is still adamantly opposed by bigots in the modern age.

Love is not limited in terms of the direction it is projected to and felt, and men loving men or women loving women is perfectly natural. Why shouldn't marriage be allowed them? Those who oppose gay marriage are simply stating that the concept and tradition are outdated. If they truly support what marriage is supposed to stand for, they would allow anyone to marry whom they chose, not limit it to some narrow definition given by pompous old men when writing the bible.

It's hard to get maried for same-sex couple. I wish decreasing discrimination and prejudice toward them. Washington state saved many people by the new law. That's wouderful things!! Either gay or straight, we should be happy with each special person.

    CrisGerSan,

"but to support dysfunctional practices with public legislation that enforces the wishes of a minority is a sad example of the modern wave of imposed liberalism"

There's definitely more than a hint of fringe right-wing's latent homosexuality in that rant. Obviously it is safe to assume you were being sarcastic?

Madverts- Taking a position that "marriage " is a union between a MAN and a WOMAN, is NOT necessarily RIGHT WING rant . . ...................................It is in keeping with the morality of every culture, people group, country since the beginning of civilization.

  • 3

    Madverts

Replies in BOLD could be interpreted as ranting too I guess.

But don't take my word for it, science has come to the rescue with studies that suggest those individuals who are the most hostile toward gays and hold strong anti-gay views may themselves have same-sex desires, albeit undercover ones. Just ask toilet commando's like Larry Craig or the really scary religious nuts like evangelist Ted Haggard....

...public legislation that enforces the wishes of a minority is a sad example...

Not the wishes of a minority. This was put up for a vote, and a majority of voters pushed this law through. In Washington state, your beliefs would put you in the minority.

    gelendestrasse

Well, now that they are legally married they'll get to enjoy the pleasures of divorce court too. I wouldn't wish that on anybody.
