I wonder if it would be quicker to fly somewhere close to Haiti then get the cargo there the rest of the way by ship? Getting those planes in quickly seems like it would be a logistical nightmare. And one glitch could mess everything up for days. So could one day of bad weather.

The quake rendered the seaport unusable. While U.S ships have been making repairs on the port it will be some time before it can start recieving ships. In the meantime the only way into Haiti is through the barely functional airport or over from the DR.

Question is WHY was Haiti run like this for simply ages? Now it is a nightmare to all there & those that have come to help to supply FREE goods as Haiti does not, & never had the money to pay for help or supplies. While the vandals make Haiti into a place of horror & to other humans be they from a helping country or Haiti visitors, but then for ages Haiti has been like this for generations.

Regardless of how Haiti was run in the past, the people there need help and aid. For us more fortunate ones, we definitely should contribute any way possible to help them out. At the end of the day, I doubt I can look at myself in the mirror if i don't even give a care about the

They wouldn't have to wait if it weren't for the American occupation of the airport.

no one else is smart enough to do it.

I don't think so. No one else wants to invade bad enough.

[I don't think so. No one else wants to invade bad enough.] ---- This must be twit post of the whole thread. Wants to invade? If they didn't do anything people would be on here saying shiite like "there is no oil in Haiti" and other equally stupid comments because they have their PHDs in Amerikan Studies from the Akademy of Liberal Luddite Ameirka Hating (ALLAH).

@bushlover Do you agree that the Obama government has done a great job dealing with the situation in Haiti in the past 9 days?

If we look only at what has happened since the earthquake, the US government appears to be handling it well. But if one digs a little deeper...

    "U.S. forces in the region"

That region is incredibly fortunate to have U.S. forces there.

"the US government appears to be handling it well. But if one digs a little deeper..."

... one will see the U.S. military is handling it superbly.

With the avionics available on planes these days, it would have to be some extraordinarily bad weather.

Wow, just replace "Haiti" with "New Orleans"...

Hugo? Hugo Chavez, is that you?

Not to be a parade-rainer, but it would be nice if the publicity-seeking politicians would get out of the way. Too many have made a point of being flown over so they can pose in front of a camera and show the folks back home they care. Even John Edwards has flown to Haiti. Edwards! He's not even in office!

When Bush and Clinton were interviewed about their fund-raising efforts, Bush was asked if he was going to visit Haiti, and he said no, that he would stay out of the way. When Clinton was asked the same question, he said Oh yeah, absolutely. Sheesh.

The Americans are doing the best job possible. Someone has to take charge and America is the country to do such. It has a large military forced trained in this work and it is nearest country to Haiti.

Plus, their military ships can pump a lot of fresh water. They have hospitals on them too.
