If you join such groups, you should lose your right to return to a civilized country like Australia. And your family should have flags raised in their passports.

Not entirely sure I'd compliment Australia like that (I'm Australian, at least once upon a time) but I agree with your comment.

I care not where they're from, or what religion they belong to. If they are involved with killing others because of differences in opinion, then I wish them misfortune.

I doubt many will shed tears over the deaths of these people... rightly so.

and what about Israelis with Australian passports who fight with the Israeli army and then return to Australia?many would consider them to be terrorists of a sort....

" ' ASIO believes there are about 60 or so Australians fighting with the two principal extremist al-Qaida derivatives, Jahabat al-Nusra and the Islamic State in Syria or Iraq,' Irvine said."

There were no al-Qaida derivatives in Iraq until after the Bush led invasion of that country to destroy non-existent WMDs. Sometimes it is better to let sleeping dogs lie.

Not even close to the same. They are protecting their ancestral homeland. They are not trying to establish a Caliphate nor are they chopping off heads.

That is a ridiculous comment. Israel is a modern democracy (the only in the region), and the IDF is a modern armee, controlled by the government. No matter how biased, where in the world do you get off comparing that to to terrorists, murdering, beheading and terrorizing populations to establish their medieval Caliphate???

By the way, I am curious when these jihadi terrorists morphed into "fighters". What the hell is a fighter, anyway? Can´t we stop this PC speak already?

Good. Would you rather they are shot in the Middle East or "Wait 'til you get HOME " ? Any Buggs Bunny / Daffy Duck fans on here ?

This article is not just news, but a warning from the way it is presented.

Sad that individuals misguided or otherwise dreaming are participating in what is considered terrorism which threatens the lives of innocent people. Regardless of idealism or cause killing and hurting the unrelated innocent cannot be condoned today.

What could be done other than by police force to better guide those who are uncertain of what to do with their lives?

Is it education? Is it jobs? Is it the media? What is it? Where does it all start? What is involved?

And when the rest decide to return to Australia I hope they are all arrested and dragged into a deep dark hole somewhere before they have the chance to harm anyone!
